Artist Statement

Rules and customs are foundations that form my life. They effect how I react and make decisions. To be able to fit into mainstream I need to learn to follow them. Sometimes, there is conflict within myself to follow rules. They make me uncomfortable and I often wonder what would happen if I broke them. It is a requirement that I learn and understand them. However, I try to find a way to properly break them in order to be true myself and find what works best for me.

In my work, I use vibrantly colored rigid shapes as the "rules" that I must follow. Most of the shapes are geometric as they are familiar to us in every day life, such as signs on the street.

The sky and clouds represent the part of my life that is effected by rules. Skies are constantly transforming due to surrounding forces such as weather, time, pressure, etc. Most of my works are digital and some are mixed media in order to create a variety of contrast.
